Tree trimming and removal in Mounds

Crown & Root Tree Service is locally owned in Tulsa, and Mounds is part of our regular service area, with no extra travel charge.

Mounds is a Creek County town of about 900 people, roughly 22 miles south of downtown Tulsa. Highway 75A runs through the middle of town and US-75 is a couple of miles east. The post office opened in 1895 as Posey, named for the Creek poet Alexander Posey, and three years later the town moved and took its name from the twin hills nearby.

When the Glenn Pool oil field hit in 1905, Mounds went from shipping cattle to shipping crude. A lot of the land around town has gone back to pasture and woods since then, which means post oak, blackjack oak and cedar coming up anywhere nobody mows.

Out here the jobs tend to be bigger and simpler: a dead oak standing by the barn, cedar taking over a pasture, a fence row that has to be cleared before a new fence goes in. We bring the crew and the equipment, clear it and haul it off.

Questions from Mounds homeowners

How much does tree removal cost in Mounds?

Out around Mounds a lot of trees have room to fall, and a tree that can be dropped whole in an open pasture is much quicker than one that has to come down in pieces next to the barn. Big dead oaks and acres of cedar are the common jobs. Size, access and how much there is set the price; haul-away and stump grinding are included, and there’s no travel charge for the drive.

Will Mounds pick up a tree that fell in my yard?

Not on private land. Mounds is a small town: trees blocking public roads are cleared by the town or Creek County, depending on the road, and anything on private land is the owner’s. A dead oak that falls across your fence or drive is yours to clear. We cut it up and haul it off.

When is the best time to trim trees in Mounds?

The dead of winter is the best time for the post oaks and blackjacks around Mounds, while they’re fully dormant. Cedar clearing can be done any time of year. Dead trees near the barn or the house come down whenever you’re ready, and the sooner the better.

Is it better to trim a tree or cut it down in Mounds?

On acreage, removing cedar is almost always cheaper than trimming it, since it only spreads. A good post oak is worth trimming: it grows slow and you won’t get another one like it soon. A dead oak is a removal, and the longer it stands near something, the more careful work it takes.

Do you charge a travel fee to come out to Mounds?

No. Mounds is one of our 20 service towns, so the estimate is free and there’s no extra charge for the drive.

Can you clear a few acres of cedar?

Yes. Lot and land clearing is part of what we do. We’ll walk it with you, mark what stays and give you a firm price before we start.
