Tree trimming and removal in Sapulpa

Crown & Root Tree Service is locally owned in Tulsa, and Sapulpa is part of our regular service area, with no extra travel charge.

Sapulpa is the Creek County seat and one of the older towns in the area, named for James Sapulpa, a Creek man who set up a trading post here around 1850. Historic Route 66 still runs right through the middle of it, and the neighborhoods near downtown have the big, established shade trees that come with a town that’s been around that long.

Head out toward Sahoma Lake or the rural edges of town and the lots change: more native post oak and blackjack oak, more cedar, and a lot more trees that have never been trimmed at all. In town, the work is usually taking deadwood and weight off older limbs that hang over roofs. Outside town, it’s more often clearing things out and opening a lot back up.

Storms here have a way of finding the big old trees. Two tornadoes hit Sapulpa in 2019, and after the storms that May, dozens of huge trees lay uprooted across century-old headstones. The city declared a state of emergency that year, which is what let city crews help haul limbs off private property.

Without that declaration, it’s on the homeowner. After the May 2025 storms, the city said there was no place to dump limbs, since public money generally can’t be spent on private property unless an emergency is declared. That’s why our price always includes cleanup and haul-away, and our emergency team covers Sapulpa too, typically on site within 1 to 2 hours.

Questions from Sapulpa homeowners

How much does tree removal cost in Sapulpa?

It depends on the tree and where it stands. A big shade tree over a roof in the older streets near downtown comes down in pieces on ropes; a dead oak on open acreage toward Sahoma Lake can often be dropped whole, which takes less time. Storm damage adds work, since a split or hung-up tree has to be taken apart carefully. Stump grinding, cleanup and haul-away are always included, which matters here: the city usually has no place to dump limbs. The estimate is free and the price is firm before we start.

Will Sapulpa pick up a tree that fell in my yard?

Usually not. A tree on private property is the owner’s, and after the May 2025 storms the city said there was no place to dump limbs, since public money generally can’t be spent on private property without an emergency declaration. In 2019, when two tornadoes hit and the city declared a state of emergency, crews did help haul limbs off private land, but that was the exception. When we clear a fallen tree in Sapulpa, it leaves with us the same day.

When is the best time to trim trees in Sapulpa?

Late winter suits most of the trees in Sapulpa, from the old shade trees downtown to the post oaks and blackjacks outside town, and the oaks especially are best cut in the dead of winter. With the leaves off, deadwood and weak limbs over the roof are easy to spot, and the cuts seal fast once spring starts. Flowering trees wait until after they bloom. Storm-broken limbs come off whenever they break.

Is it better to trim a tree or cut it down in Sapulpa?

In town, trimming usually wins: taking deadwood and weight off an old shade tree keeps it standing and keeps the limbs off the roof for years. On rural lots, trees that have never been trimmed and are crowded by cedar are often cheaper to remove and clear than to trim one by one. We’ll walk it with you and price both ways if it’s close.

Do you do stump grinding in Sapulpa?

Yes. Stump grinding comes with every removal, and we also grind old stumps another company left behind, so the spot can be leveled and seeded.
