Bushes cut back off the house
Crown & Root Tree Service trims bushes and hedges along with the trees. In Tulsa yards that usually means hollies and boxwoods by the front door, junipers along the foundation, privet hedges along the fence and crape myrtles by the driveway, all a couple of seasons past their last real trim.
Bushes against the siding hold moisture on the house and give bugs a way in, and bushes over the windows and walkway are just in the way. We cut them back to where they belong and shape them so they stay there.
What we trim

- Hedges along fences, driveways and property lines

Bush trimming FAQ
How much does bush trimming cost?
It depends on how many bushes, how big they are and how overgrown they got. The estimate is free and you get a firm price before we start.
Can you trim bushes that have grown over the windows?
Yes, that is one of the most common jobs. We cut them back off the windows, the walkway and the siding, and shape them so they don't grow right back over in a month.
When is the best time to trim bushes in Tulsa?
For most hedges, late winter or early spring before new growth, then a lighter shaping in summer. Shrubs that bloom in spring, like forsythia or azaleas, are best trimmed right after they flower so you don't cut off next year's blooms. Not sure what you have? We'll tell you when we come out.
How often should you trim bushes?
Most hedges and shrubs look best trimmed once or twice a year: a main trim after the spring growth, and a lighter one in late summer if they grow fast. Spring bloomers like azaleas get trimmed right after they flower, so you don't cut off next year's blooms. If yours are past due, our bush trimming estimate is free and the clippings leave with us.
Can you trim a bush too much?
Yes. Taking off more than about a third of a shrub at once, or shearing it back into the bare wood inside, can leave it brown and thin for a long time, and some evergreens never grow back from bare wood. A badly overgrown bush is better brought down over a couple of seasons. We'll tell you how far each one can safely go before we cut.
Do you trim crape myrtles?
Yes, and we don't chop them down to stumps every year. That habit leaves knobby, weak branches. We thin them out and take off the dead wood so they keep their shape and still bloom.
My hedge hasn't been touched in years. Can it be saved?
Usually, yes. The first cut is a bigger job because it has to come back a lot, and it may look thin for a season before it fills in. After that it is just regular shaping.
Do you haul off the clippings?
Yes. Clippings get bagged or hauled the same day. Nothing gets left in your beds or at the curb.
Can you do the bushes when you come for the trees?
Yes, and it saves you a second trip. Tell us when you book and we'll price the trees and the bushes together.
