Why the beds matter too
Crown & Root Tree Service doesn't stop at the trees. Sharp-looking trees over an overgrown hedge line still look like a yard nobody is taking care of. Shaped hedges, clean bed lines and fresh mulch are what finish the picture.
Shrubs get out of hand quietly. A hedge you skip one season turns into a hard cutback two seasons later. A couple of visits a year keeps it from getting there.
What's typically included
- Shrub shaping as part of a bed cleanup (for overgrown bushes and hedges, see bush & hedge trimming)
- Clearing dead growth and debris from garden beds
- Mulching to finish a bed cleanup
- A visit schedule set around your yard, not one plan for everybody
- For the grass itself, see lawn care & landscaping

Clippings and cuttings get bagged or hauled rather than left in the bed, and we keep foot traffic off soft, freshly mulched beds while we finish the rest of the yard.
Haul-away is part of every visit, not something billed separately, so clippings and cuttings leave with us the same day.
Keeping it up between visits
- Water new mulch in well after it is laid, it settles and does its job better that way
- Pull young weeds while they are small, before they establish roots in fresh mulch
- Light hand-pruning between visits keeps fast growers from getting ahead of schedule
- As general guidance, most established shrubs need about an inch of water a week, more during a hot, dry stretch
Our promise
Safety first
We keep foot traffic off freshly mulched beds and clear of anything we're cutting back, so the yard stays safe while we work.
Prepared from the first visit
We look at the whole bed, not just the one overgrown shrub, so the shape makes sense once we're finished.
No surprises
You'll know what we're doing and why before the shears come out, and the free estimate covers it before we start.
Clean finish
Clippings bagged, beds tidied, mulch settled in. Not a pile of trimmings left for you to deal with.

How much does garden maintenance cost?
It depends on how big the beds are, how overgrown they are and how often you want us out. We look at it for free and give you a firm price before we start, so you know what each visit costs up front.
What does garden maintenance include?
Cutting shrubs back into shape, pulling dead growth and weeds out of the beds, clearing leaves and debris, and fresh mulch to finish. We walk the beds with you first, so you only pay for what your yard needs.
How often should a garden be maintained?
Fast growers like privet and burning bush usually need shaping two or three times a season. Slower shrubs and perennial beds can often get by with one or two visits a year. We set the schedule around your yard, not one calendar for everybody.
Do you put down mulch?
Yes. Mulch is how most bed cleanups end. It holds water in through a Tulsa summer and keeps weeds down. Tell us at the estimate if you have a color or type in mind.
Can you take over a yard that has been let go?
Yes. If a bed or hedge hasn’t been touched in a season or two, the first visit just takes longer because we cut things back hard first. After that it’s regular upkeep. Tell us what you’re working with when you call.
Do you bring the plants and mulch, or do I?
Either way works. Some homeowners want us to bring everything, others already have plants or mulch sitting in the garage. We settle it at the estimate so the price is clear up front.
Is this a one-time cleanup or an ongoing service?
Both. Some people want one big reset on an overgrown yard, others want us back on a regular schedule. If you want the grass handled too, see our lawn care and landscaping.
Can garden care be done on the same visit as tree trimming?
Usually, yes. If the crew is already there for your trees, doing the hedges and beds the same day saves you a second trip. Mention it when you book and we’ll plan for both.
