When rigging isn't enough
Most removals Crown & Root Tree Service does come down by hand: a climber cuts the tree in sections and the ground crew lowers each one on ropes. But a giant oak hanging over the roof, a dead tree that isn't safe to climb, or a backyard tree with no way out except over the house is a different job.
That's when we bring the crane in. Each section gets cut and lifted up and over the house to the street, instead of being lowered onto the yard or dragged across it. It's the safest way to take down a tree that's too much for ropes alone.
Signs your tree is a crane job
- Big trunk and limbs hanging directly over the house or garage
- Dead or rotten wood that isn't safe for a climber to tie into
- Backyard tree with no gate or side yard wide enough to carry the wood out
- Storm damage with the tree already resting on the roof

Crane removal FAQ
How much does it cost to remove a tree with a crane?
The crane adds cost for the day, but on the right tree it saves hours of climbing and rigging and takes a lot of risk off your roof. We tell you at the estimate if your tree needs one or if we can rig it down by hand, and you get a firm price either way.
When is a crane needed for tree removal?
When it is too big, too dead or too close to the house to bring down by hand. A huge oak leaning over the roof, a dead tree nobody should be climbing, or a backyard tree with no way to get the wood out except over the house.
Will the crane tear up my yard?
We plan where it sets up at the estimate, usually the street or the driveway, so it stays off your lawn as much as possible. The pieces go up and over, not dragged across the grass.
Do I need a permit to put a crane on my street?
If the job needs one, we take care of it. You do not have to call the city yourself.
What happens to the logs and the stump?
Logs and brush leave with us the same day, and the stump gets ground. Both are part of the price.
A storm put a big tree on my house. Can a crane get it off?
Often that is exactly when a crane is the safest way. Get everyone out of that part of the house and call us. Our emergency team is usually there within 1 to 2 hours, and we help with the insurance claim.
