Tree trimming and removal in Owasso
Crown & Root Tree Service is locally owned in Tulsa, and Owasso is part of our regular service area, with no extra travel charge.
Owasso started out in 1881 as the Elm Creek settlement. When the railroad coming down from the north ended here in a turnaround “Y,” the place picked up the name Owasso, usually translated as “the end of the trail” or “turn around.” Today it’s one of the biggest suburbs north of Tulsa, reaching into both Tulsa and Rogers counties.
Owasso has been hit more than once. An EF-1 tornado uprooted trees across neighborhoods in May 2017. On April 2, 2025, a high-end EF-1 with winds around 100 to 110 mph crossed the west and north sides of town, through neighborhoods like the Fairways at Bailey Ranch, snapping and uprooting trees along the way. About 287 homes and buildings were affected.
A lot of Owasso’s neighborhoods are new enough that the trees are still young, and that’s good news. A young tree with one strong leader and well-spaced limbs holds up to wind far better than one that was left to grow into a fork. Shaping a tree while it’s young is a short job. Cleaning one up after it splits in a storm is not.

Questions from Owasso homeowners
How much does tree removal cost in Owasso?
Owasso removals are priced on the tree’s size, what it could hit and its condition. Most of the city’s neighborhoods are young, so a lot of jobs are mid-size trees in fenced backyards, which go quicker than the big trees out toward Elm Creek and Bird Creek. A tree that was snapped or twisted in a storm, like the ones the April 2025 tornado left across the west and north sides of town, takes more rigging than a sound one. Stump grinding, cleanup and haul-away are included, and you get a firm price before we start.
Will the City of Owasso remove a fallen tree?
For trees on private property, no: those belong to the owner. Owasso’s Refuse Division does collect yard waste on a schedule inside city limits, and after big storms the city has run extra pickups for limbs bundled at the curb, like the free cleanup after the April 2025 tornado. You still have to cut the tree up and get it to the curb in pieces the city can handle. When we do it, the tree is cut, loaded and gone the same day, and we help with the insurance claim.
What time of year is best to trim trees in Owasso?
Late winter, before the leaves come out, is the best time for most trees in Owasso. It’s also when to shape the young trees in the newer subdivisions: one strong leader and well-spaced limbs is what keeps a tree standing in a 100 mph gust. Spring bloomers wait until after they flower. Anything dead, split or hanging comes off right away, whatever the month.
Should I trim my tree or have it removed in Owasso?
For a young tree, trimming wins every time: shaping it now is a short job, and a tree with good structure is far less likely to split later. On an older or storm-damaged tree it depends on the damage. If the trunk is sound, cutting back to clean wood is cheaper and keeps the shade. If the main trunk is split or the tree is leaning toward the house, trimming only delays a removal you’ll pay for anyway.
Can a storm-damaged tree be saved?
Sometimes. If the split is small and the tree is young, we can often prune it back to sound wood. A big split down the main trunk usually means the tree has to come down before it falls on its own. Our emergency team is typically on site within 1 to 2 hours, and we help with the insurance claim.
Does homeowners insurance pay for tree removal after a storm?
Often, when the tree falls on something the policy covers, like the house, a garage or a fence. A tree that comes down in the yard without hitting anything usually isn’t covered. Check your policy or call your agent; we help with the claim and the photos it needs.
